The Handmade Pie and Ale House

Today was the first day off I’ve had in a little while and I was keen on updating my blog so I decided to take izi and my best friend out for dinner at The handmade pie and ale house by the train station in Weymouth as my friend had never been and I was keen to show it off having been a couple of times before.

The pie and ale house is located very close to the train station, it started as a van selling pies which I thought was great to grab one to take on the train and has expanded to the pie and ale house it is now.

The selection of pies on offer are great and I’m sure if you read my previous blog you know that I quite like ales too so this is a great place for me personally. So as soon as we arrived we took our seats and I went to inspect the ales on offer and settled for one called Star Gazer  which is an ale from Yeovil which is where my friend who I was with was visiting from to join me.

As for the pies there was a nice selection to choose from and there have been different choices each time I have been. Izi went for the pork and scrumpy, my friend went for the Spanish chicken pie and I went for the fajita pie.

There is a twenty minute wait on food which is understandable being the pies are made to order yet it did not feel that long. They also do a nice selection of starters and if I had been more hungry than I was I would have definitely got some calamari rings or the brie wedges in panko breadcrumbs but I have eaten here before and I know that the pies along with the chips or mash and the peas or beans and gravy was more than enough.

The food is well presented and each pie has the initials on top so you know before you tuck in you definitely have not got it mixed up, the chips come in a little fryer basket and the peas in a little colander. I went for cheesy chips but instead of some chips with grated cheese it is a cheese sauce which was delicious, my fajita pie also came with jalapenos, sour cream, guacamole and grated cheese.

The pies were great and the prices were just as good too, for the three of us to have our pies and a drink each the bill was under £40 and we all couldn’t eat another thing which is unusual for me as I’m always the one to look at the desserts board as there is usually always room for dessert.

I would definitely eat here again and would recommend it to anyone too and if you are coming by train you can’t miss it.
